WORLD SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Every two years this amazing opportunity presents itself to Scottish schools skiers
World Schools Background
Every 2 years the SSSA organises a team of Scottish schools skiers to represent Scotland at the World Schools Championships (WSC). (Pic above is the 2016 team)
Every time it runs, the championship moves to a different location. It lasts for one week and offers competitions in the Slalom and Giant Slalom disciplines.
Being a "non alpine nation" Scotland is permitted to take a team of pupils selected from multiple schools. (Alpine nations must select teams from a single school)
The team usually comprises:-
5 x male U18 alpine racers
5 x female U18 alpine racers
5 x male U16 alpine racers
5 x female U16 alpine racers
All pupils interested in applying to be considered for selection into the WSC Alpine Team should ensure they have read the guideline information and criteria before applying. Application is by online form only.
A panel of selectors, made up of experienced coaches will scrutune the applications and independently nominate athletes for each team. The selection panel will then review these nominations and jointly select the WSC team in early September.
Whilst the SSSA works hard to secure sponsors and raise funds to subsidise the cost of the trip as far as possible, each team athlete will be required to pay a proportion of the overall costs of attending. This contribution can only be determined after the costs have been budgeted and sponsors secured.
